Gavin Jackson CRM was engaged by Tjiwarl Aboriginal Corporation to assist with the development of a Cultural Heritage Management Plan for the Bellevue Gold Project, in the northern Goldfields region, approximately 430 km north of Kalgoorlie and 40 km north of Leinster. The project involved an initial on-country visit with Tjiwarl AC’s cultural advisory committee and a number of subsequent field trips, in order to record cultural and environmental issues of significance to the Tjiwarl native title holders, within Bellevue’s proposed development area. Gavin Jackson CRM worked as part of a multi-disciplinary team in collaboration with Tjiwarl native title holders, Tjiwarl AC and Bellevue personnel to identify, record and develop management strategies for the significant cultural values in the area, which resulted in successful negotiation between Tjiwarl and Bellevue concerning the design of all project elements and the management and protection of important places, areas and values. The CHMP that was developed will also provide Tjiwarl AC and Bellevue with guidance and clarity regarding the ongoing management of areas and places of significance, future heritage requirements and project operations.
